2008 Archaeological Field School at Catawba Nassaw Town Have you ever wanted to participate in an archaeological excavation? This course will give you the opportunity to do just that while earning six hours of college credit. UNC's summer field school will be held at the site of Nassaw Town in York County, South Carolina (just south of Charlotte). This principal Catawba Indian settlement was inhabited during the French and Indian War, and has yielded significant evidence about the emergence and endurance of the modern Catawba Nation. Our goal is to learn more about this community by uncovering artifacts and traces of houses and other features. It promises to be an exciting project.
