Lesson 4.4. Pottery Traditions
Social Studies (1996 version, implemented and tested.)
- Grade 4, Goal 2: Anthropology, psychology, sociology -- the learner will assess the influence of major religions, ethical beliefs, and aesthetic values on life in North Carolina.
- Objective 1: Describe traditional art forms and aesthetic values in North Carolina.
- Grade 8, Goal 2: Impact of exploration -- the learner will evaluate the effects of early contacts between various European nations and Native Americans.
- Objective 1: Identify Native American cultures and evaluate their contributions to North Carolina culture.
Visual Arts Education (1996 version, implemented but not tested.)
- Grades 6-8, Goal 2: As a result of visual arts study, the student will develop skills necessary for understanding and applying media, techniques, and processes.
- Objective 2: Learn techniques and processes for working with each material.
- Grades 6-8, Goal 5: As a result of visual arts study, the student will understand the visual arts in relation to history and cultures.
- Objective 3: Compare relationships of works of art to one another in terms of history, esthetics, and cultural/ethnic groups.
