- Grade 4, Goal 5: Geography -- the learner will evaluate ways the people of North Carolina use, modify and adapt to the physical environment.
- Objective 1: Explain how North Carolinians in the past used, modified, or adapted to the physical environment.
- Grade 4, Goal 11: History -- the learner will assess changes in ways of living over time and investigate why and how these changes occurred.
- Objective 1: Identify and describe changes which have occurred in ways of living in North Carolina.
Science (1999 version, implemented but not yet tested.)
- Grade 4, Goal 4: The learner will build an understanding of technological designs.
- Objective 1: Assess the invention of tools and techniques to solve problems.
- Objective 2: Observe the many tools that are based on designs found in nature.
